The Oatmeal blacked out in protest of SOPA / PIPA

Here’s what I have to say about SOPA/PIPA. I understand the desire to stop piracy, but the act is horribly flawed, and I do believe the internet as a community is doing the right thing in opposing it. That being said, due to the petitions and the strike and just the general uprising I have seen in response to this, I don’t see any way that the act still COULD be passed. If SOPA/PIPA goes through Congress will have flagrantly disregarded the wishes of the population, and the failure of democracy will have serious repercussions.
So I support the internet strike. Why then, you ask, am I not blacking out my page today? Well quite frankly, I don’t see the need too. Wikipedia pretty much singlehandedly informed the entire population of the internet, and I can’t really add anything too that. Besides, if you’re reading this chances are you’re on my page, and my part in opposing SOPA is complete.
So do yourself and all of your friends a favor. Enjoy this semi-silly, semi-crude, semi-sacrilegious, and very funny gif from The Oatmeal, and then go sign the petition and let Congress know that SOPA/PIPA just won’t fly!
And that’s all I have to say about that.
